Marianna on a December day...

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to go back to Marianna, which is my husband's hometown. On my way home I decided to take a couple of photos. This is a glimpse of what an old coal mining town looks like today. I have heard that it was once a busy, little town where the men worked hard in the coal mine while their wives were busy raising the children. This town, like most of the coal patches, quickly became home to people of Eastern European descent. These towns were small melting pots, filled with traditions and strong family ties.

These are the old coke ovens at the Marianna Mine. I was going to take a closer look and then I remembered that I was walking around in a wooded area, dressed in dark clothing on a Saturday in the midst of deer season. I didn't want to get shot, so I went back to my car. I will try again some other day.
